Shame of a contraption - Banning the film, 'Half of a Yellow Sun'

by Eze Eluchie

By its vexatious decision to ban the Nigerian release of the world acclaimed film on the Biafran genocide, ‘Half Of A Yellow Sun’, the National Video and Films Censors Board (NVFCB) has merely depicted itself as a tool in the hands of an expiring breed of Nigerians who continue to wallow in propagating deceit and outdated manipulation of our population.

Banning of films is what one expects in totalitarian societies, such as North Korea, and certainly not in a polity that pretends to be a democracy.

In the event that the NVFCB and its sponsors choose to kill and bury history and keep Nigerian uninformed about the cause, circumstances, happenings and outcomes of the Biafran genocide, posterity and the World have long moved on: You simply cannot 'ban' the fact that over 3 million people were killed during the Biafran genocide!

By its ill-thought action of banning Chimamanda Adichie’s ‘Half Of A Yellow Sun’ movie, the NVFCB, which neither has the capacity to enforce such a ban nor understands its statutory roles, has only served to make the ‘Half Of A Yellow Sun’ movie, a must-watch for all Nigerians and those interested in understanding the reality of our contraption.

I personally had not bothered to watch this movie before now, but rest assured I will get a copy of it before midweek and get to know what scares those who seek to hold the rest of us in bondage and ignorance.
