The greatest
beneficiaries of the rejection of offer of amnesty extended to the Boko Haram
terror outfit by Nigeria’s government are, most ironically, the members of the northern
oligarchy who had been positioning themselves as administrators of the
multi-billion U.S. Dollar heist that would have accrued as a result of the ‘amnesty’.
These
charlatans, who parade as opinion leaders-cum-rulers of Nigeria’s northern
region, had been shouting themselves hoarse in a vociferous effort to stampede
the Jonathan administration to releasing mega-funds in an amnesty package,
ostensibly to appease/’settle’ the fighters of the Boko Haram (BH) Islamist
terrorist outfit. The real intent
obviously had never been to pay off any terrorists but rather to fill up offshore
bank accounts with easy loot from the Federation Account, as was the case with
the funds doled out by Nigeria to appease the Niger Delta militants.
Who ever
told our local goons that you can pay off terrorists? If that were the case, I
am sure that the IMF and the World Bank would have willingly stepped in to ‘settle’
the al-Qeada issue!
What our devoid-of-scruples
northern rulers had not factored in was that if any of them had dared to
collect a dime on behalf of BH, the backlash would have been drastic and
immediate. All persons who would have been appointed to such ‘BH Amnesty Committee’ would have had a life
expectancy similar to that of a
long-legged blonde Texan lady, who walks down the street of downtown Pershawar or
Kandahar, clad only in a skimpy bikini and mouthing profanities against Islam.
From the date any 'BH Amnesty Committee' would have been set up, it would have been grammatically correct to refer to any member of such committee in the past tense. What would
have hit Nigeria’s northern oligarchy would have made the so-called Nzeogwu-led
coup of 1966 look like a tea-party.
The
rejection of the invitation to serve on the 'BH Amnesty Committee' directly increases the life expectancy of the
northern rulers who would have served on the said Committee!
Now that the
‘amnesty for terrorist’ deal has been rebuffed, one only hopes that the
Jonathan administration will put on a thinking cap (presumably, it must have
one) to address the Boko Haram insurgence.
Restructure
and Renegotiate the contraption!
